Learning how to paint with oil is the general medium for most beginning artists. It is a good way to study because corrections can be quickly and easily made. When you paint a segment of your canvas and encounter a color you dislike, just scrape it off with no harm to the surface. Colors can also be painted over and over again, so your authentic drawing can be altered as you go. Another neat thing about oil painting is that you can merge the shadow and light aspects of your painting. And lastly, you are able to pause and resume your oil painting at any time you want.

Even though countless artists aim to stick to a certain medium of painting, you can broaden your horizons and skills with oil paintings, even if you don’t stick with it. After painting with oils for some time, you come to find that there is more to oil painting than meets the eye. You have to chose the surface type, the stain of the surface and the under painting process comes full circle in the end.

Another important part of oil painting is finding a good painting box to store your materials in. You can find numerous individual boxes, most metal or wood. If you purchase an unstained wooden box, make certain to stain it so if extra paint gets on it, you can just wipe it off.

Last of all, I want to discuss how important proper education is for learning to paint. Most people today have a big problem with learning to paint because they either can’t afford the lessons or classes or have the time for them. This issue forces them to look at alternative training, such as in home training programs. All of these in home training lessons aren’t junk, there are a few great ones that you can learn lots from. Take the program I got for example, Learn and Master Painting by Gayle Levee. Her style of teaching made it easy to learn and it also made the lessons fun and enjoyable. Oh and if you check them out, you should also read the the Learn and Master Painting review.
