Your credit history. It could be your worst enemy, or your best friend. Most of the time it’s like a nasty mother in law coming to stay at your house. You know that she’s coming, and that’s always bad news, but you are too afraid to ask or even consider how long she will be staying. Even though that was the worst comparison ever, read on to see how long negative marks remain on your credit history!





There is some great news for retail! Top U.S. retail chains took a positive turn from January’s sales from last year’s decline, perhaps because many avoided huge clearance sales, and shoppers cashed in on the holiday gift cards.





Layoffs and pay cuts pushed more people towards bankruptcy last year, and experts say that the situation will most likely not iget better until the unemployment issue igets better. In Wisconsin, bankruptcy filings raised to 30 percent in 2009. This came on top of a 35 percent increase in the preceding year.





Tax season is coming and so are the cyber crooks. IRS scams are being spread around, the latest one involving email that appears to be legitimate from the IRS that states that you can get your tax refund on a Visa or a Mastercard. It asks for your credit card number, your social security number, credit card expiration dates, card verification value numbers, amount shown on your tax return, filing status and other personal information.





The first call came in late April. Megan Duffy, a 21-year-old college student, picked up the phone at her parents’ home in Belmar, N.J., and heard the voice of a debt collector. With just one credit card and a few hospital bills to pay off, she wasn’t fazed. For Duffy and other New Jersey residents who feel besieged by debt collectors, relief could be on the way. An Assembly committee on June 4 approved the New Jersey Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, which would expand a 1977 federal law and give victims of harassment access to help at the state level. “New Jersey’s long overdue to come up with a state statute,” Burzichelli said. The bill would more strictly regulate the communication debt collectors can have with debtors, and impose harsher penalties on violators.
