Tax season is coming and so are the cyber crooks. IRS scams are being spread around, the latest one involving email that appears to be legitimate from the IRS that states that you can get your tax refund on a Visa or a Mastercard. It asks for your credit card number, your social security number, credit card expiration dates, card verification value numbers, amount shown on your tax return, filing status and other personal information.





More than 200 Scranton taxpayers may have received a letter from a collection agency that they did not deserve. The notices are for garbage fees that might have actually been paid. According to officials, the garbage bill for 2009 could be at fault for more than 200 collection notices sent to city taxpayers in error last week. That is what they believe.





One of the main benefits to working with many collection agencies is that you only pay them when they successfully recover your money. This means if the collection agency fails to collect money on your behalf, you don’t owe a penny. Debt collection agents operate on a commission, usually collecting about one third of the commission.
